Senior Data Engineer (Spark / Databricks)

The analytics arm of a listed Greek retail group, building a group-wide data platform to serve 20+ internal product teams. The role exists because the current Hadoop-based stack is being replaced with a modern lakehouse architecture.

The Role

You'll design and build the core ingestion, transformation, and orchestration layers on Databricks, migrating batch ETL jobs from legacy pipelines and onboarding new real-time data sources. Your first six-month milestone is delivering a production-ready Delta Lake platform with four critical data domains live. You'll mentor one junior data engineer.

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years in data engineering or big-data engineering roles
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark (PySpark or Scala)
• Production use of Databricks, including Delta Lake and Unity Catalog
• Strong SQL and data-modelling skills (dimensional, data vault, or medallion architecture)
• Experience with orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster)

Nice to Have

• Experience with streaming pipelines (Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming)
• Familiarity with dbt for transformations
• Azure or AWS cloud-data services (ADLS, Glue, Redshift)
